Packing and Decomposition of Graphs with Trees

چکیده

Let H be a tree on h ≥ 2 vertices. It is shown that if n is sufficiently large and G = (V,E) is an n-vertex graph with δ(G) ≥ bn/2c, then there are b|E|/(h − 1)c edge-disjoint subgraphs of G which are isomorphic to H. In particular, if h− 1 divides |E| then there is an H-decomposition of G. This result is best possible as there are infinitely many examples of trees on h vertices and graphs G with m(h− 1) edges, δ(G) ≥ bn/2c − 1, for which G has no H-decomposition.

A note on packing spanning trees in graphs and bases in matroids

We consider the class of graphs for which the edge connectivity is equal to the maximum number of edge-disjoint spanning trees, and the natural generalization to matroids, where the cogirth is equal to the number of disjoint bases. We provide descriptions of such graphs and matroids, showing that such a graph (or matroid) has a unique decomposition. In the case of graphs, our results are releva...

On Open Packing Number of Graphs

In a graph G = (V,E), a subset $S⊂V$ is said to be an open packing set if no two vertices of S have a common neighbour in G. The maximum cardinality of an open packing set is called the open packing number and is denoted by $ρ^{o}$. This paper further studies on this parameter by obtaining some new bounds.

Distinct edge geodetic decomposition in graphs

Let G=(V,E) be a simple connected graph of order p and size q. A decomposition of a graph G is a collection π of edge-disjoint subgraphs G_1,G_2,…,G_n of G such that every edge of G belongs to exactly one G_i,(1≤i ≤n). The decomposition 〖π={G〗_1,G_2,…,G_n} of a connected graph G is said to be a distinct edge geodetic decomposition if g_1 (G_i )≠g_1 (G_j ),(1≤i≠j≤n). The maximum cardinality of π...

The second geometric-arithmetic index for trees and unicyclic graphs

Let $G$ be a finite and simple graph with edge set $E(G)$. The second geometric-arithmetic index is defined as $GA_2(G)=sum_{uvin E(G)}frac{2sqrt{n_un_v}}{n_u+n_v}$, where $n_u$ denotes the number of vertices in $G$ lying closer to $u$ than to $v$. In this paper we find a sharp upper bound for $GA_2(T)$, where $T$ is tree, in terms of the order and maximum degree o...

Packing Trees into Planar Graphs

1 I n t r o d u c t i o n We say that the graphs H 1 , . . . , Hk can be packed into a graph G if G contains subgraphs isomorphic to H 1 , . . . , Hk and pairwise edge disjoint. The problem of packing graphs has been widely studied, especially when G is a complete graph. For instance, it is known that two trees with n vertices none of them equal to a star can be packed into K~ [2]. The packing ...
